Buses

During the last few days I used the buses several times. Guess what? The bus drivers drive even more crazy than the car drivers. Maybe it's because it's not their buses. Or they think they know the streets. But I think more probable they just think they are the best drivers on earth;-)
What may appear stange to most Europeans is that there are no timetables for the bus! It is just there when it arrives;-) And if you ask people on the bus where you have to get off, you always get a different answer. But to be honest it's not that easy. If you ask in a nice way, you can get off almost anywhere. Nonetheless, I took the wrong bus once and couldn't get off where I wanted.

Hello Mannsi, You old saw! (Germans know what I mean. It's a very typical synonym for dude)
Sounds quiet interesting how you fight the tiny battles of all-day-life! What is it about the water in the shower? Is it provided in a steady temperature or can you regulate it in anyway? I hope so... Why do you write "our" house? With whom are you sharing the house? And how are rental-fees down there? Identical to England (holy sh***)?

Nevertheless, I was a bit surprised by my boss today. Initially they ("they" are: my mentor and good colleague "Dirk" and my boss "Deniz" - spoken like "Dennis", he is turkish) told me I am off the project for at least 2 weeks to get into writing my diploma (finally!!) and being disturped by project-tasks. But due to the fact I got a really bad flew last week which had to be treated with antibiotics (in Germany this is not really common, so it was really bad - huggings welcome *grin* ), I finished my literature-research and my written, detailed TOC just by today. So the company is setting me off of every project-tasks to finish my thesis by the end of next month. So I have at least 6 weeks to go. woooohooo! Time is running... So I will go to my home-uni next week, announce my thesis officially at the uni's department and grab some more books. Shopping-trolleys full of books... How do you manage that down there? How do you announce your thesis and how do you get your literature? I already asked, but maybe you didnt see.

Next to that my life is a bit boring meanwhile. I am staying in a living-group ("WG") with three other guys. First to mention Carlos, 22, el studento de Perú. Now I can say really important sentences, e.g. "una serveca grande para mi amigo carlos de perú, por favor!" (please dont laugh - i only can speak it) or "donde san los banjos para los hombres". The next one is Marcus. He is in the middle 30's and works in a power-plant in Bremen. Nice guy, a bit chaotic - but that fits to me. A bit. (ok, i fits a lot ;-) ) The last one is Thomas. He is 40 and student of mechincal engeneering ("Masch-Bau") and about to start his thesis as well - he thinks... The problem about him is a neurologic problem which is occuring every 2-3 months with heavy headaches, so bad he is afraid to die. He warned me in advance (for those who don't know: I am first-aider, kind of paramedic) that he would be strange sometimes when he takes his drugs. The word "drugs" can be used in both known ways at this point. Normally his PHD treats this aches with "Valoron", really heavy stuff, contains loads of opioates and comes with a so called primary addiction-risk. But tow weeks ago, he used something different. Valium, diazepam. Normally that is too weak for his purpose, but he strengthened the effect with alcohol. Phew!! I came home on that sunday night by 6pm and he was quite desoriented standing in the kitchen and after a while he told me about the combination of vodka and valium. I tell you what: he had a nice kind of brain-party!. So i dropped him in his bed, told him to sleep that everything would be fine on the next day (I knew by that point already that is would be lie...). Short before I went to bed, I found him unconscious by 1.00am on the floor in the kitchen. Great. So it was my first time in Bremen I worked with the ambulance service (Those who know me might ask: Why so late? Answer: The responsible woman at the German Red Cross in Bremen is on holiday. My application for admission is waiting in her office so I can get on Bremen's ambulances as well *smile*). All in all it was not that dramatic. They left him home and told me: "hey, you are professional, just look a few times after him" - great, i was pissed. So I got up a few times in the night and listend to his snorching. Later on we found out he had some valium in combination with 1 (in words: one) bottle of vodka. Respect. All in all he is wel again and today he had an appointment to check up medical alternatives. The really strange thing is: he did the vodka-valium thing on purpose! Valoron is too dangerous for himself due to getting addivtive and the other possibility he has to go to hospital to get morphium, what he doesn't want either (which is understandable in my eyes).

So I am doing quiet fine at all. Did you hear something from the other "England-Heroes"? How is Svenja doing in Portugal? And Fabian? Is he in China already? And the good ole' "Tante" and the big "Onkel"? Many greetings to them, if they read this!!

Many greetings from Bremen, stay well and report asap!

Fabian aka "der Kleine"

(wow, that is a really long comment :o) )

Wow, you know my patience, eh? I really read your comment until the end;-) My proposal: open your own blog (just kidding!)

Well, to answer your questions about the house: I share the house with 5 interns at Volkswagen. Or better it's to halves of a house with 3 people living in each. We also have 2 cars... We HAD 2 cars. Hendrik, one of my housemates had an accident last week and until everything es settled we have to get along with 1 car. The price is not too bad (1600 pesos, approx 130 euros) but still enough for Mexico. They can do that with the stupid Germans. But therefore I can regulate the water in the shower. Don't worry.

And how I settle all the uni stuff. First, I took some books from our home uni (don't tell anybody;-), we have some good books in our office and my boss has some more and of course the Universidad de las Americas (UDLA), one of the best unis in Mexico, is not far. I know some people there who already offered my to organize some books, if I need. Second, to Mr. Kothe I write by email. And I'll announce my thesis by fax. You see, as a "good German" everything is planned;-)

To be honest I haven't heard much of the other "English heroes" but I shouldn't complain as I didn't write regularly either.

Good luck, writing your thesis!
